What is the Crisis Services Training?
Crisis Services Training is required for all volunteers who work directly with clients.  It is a 16 hour training that covers the topics of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, effects of domestic violence on children, and YWCA programs and services. You will also learn more about how to get involved at the YWCA!

What volunteer opportunities does the YWCA offer?
We have numerous volunteer positions available, to learn more check out our Volunteer Opportunities Page.

Do you have any volunteer opportunities that don’t require the 16 hours of training?
Yes! Those opportunities include office work and special events. You can also volunteer at Our Sisters’ Closet, the resale shop of the YWCA Oklahoma City.

Will I need to complete a background check?
Yes, we require that all of our volunteers complete a background check. Even if the volunteer is not directly working with the clients, we still require a background check.

Can children volunteer in the shelter?
Unfortunately, we cannot allow children to volunteer. Our main concern is to protect the confidentially of the client. A situation may arise where it may be difficult for a child to keep a client’s information confidential.

Do you have volunteer opportunities for groups?
Yes! Groups of volunteers can help with grounds beautification, painting, and preparing meals.   Training is not required for group volunteer projects. Groups can also coordinate special projects.

I don’t have time to volunteer, but still want to be involved. What can I do?
The YWCA always appreciates donations. We are in need of donations for our shelter, our children’s programs, and for our administrative raisers offices. If you would like to participate in fundraisers, collection projects, and raising awareness, click here for more information.

Who can I contact if I still have questions about volunteering?
You can contact our Director of Outreach, Education, and Volunteer Services via email at outreach@ywcaokc.org or by phone at 405-948-1770.
