Breaking The Cycle of Violence
The Children’s Counseling Program offers therapeutic services to children, adolescents and their non-offending caretakers with the goal of restoring the child to optimum emotional well-being. Services are client-centered and trauma-focused. Children  learn how to break free from the cycle of violence. Children are given practical tools to help keep themselves safe, to resolve conflict and to manage anger and other difficult emotions.  Skills for recognizing and creating healthy relationships provide children with alternatives to continuing the cycle of violence witnessed in their homes. Available services include:

  • A comprehensive assessment
  • An individualized client centered plan
  • Individual counseling for the child and non-offending caretaker
  • Group counseling emphasizing domestic violence education
  • Crisis intervention
  • Connection to community resources

    Children's Groups

The YWCA Children’s Groups meet weekly for six weeks to provide an opportunity for interaction with others who share similar experiences.  This is important in helping young people understand that they are not alone and that they can heal from  the trauma of domestic violence.  All groups are age-appropriate and are based on established and best practice curriculum.

All child and adolescent victims of domestic violence or sexual assault between the ages of 4 to 17 years and their non-offending caretakers are eligible to receive help from the YWCA.
