YWCA Oklahoma City has a Legislative Advocacy Committee made up of staff members who work to make changes at the local, state and national level through advocacy efforts. Most advocacy efforts of the YWCA Oklahoma City are focused around the issues of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking as we provide direct services in these areas. Other advocacy efforts stem from initiatives by the YWCA USA.
The YWCA Oklahoma City participates in the Oklahoma Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault’s Legislative Awareness day each year. This day includes visits to legislators as well as awareness activities related to domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking. For more information on this event please contact us.
Additional advocacy activities include providing Lunch and Learns for Oklahoma legislators, informing legislators of the needs and concerns of victims of domestic violence as well as advocating for legislation effecting women, children and nonprofit organizations.
