YWCA Oklahoma City Statement on the Release of Bill Cosby from Incarceration
YWCA Oklahoma City wants to send a strong message to all sexual assault victims and survivors in our community. We believe you, we support you, and we are here to aide in your path to healing whenever you are ready. We feel this statement is necessary in light of the shocking release of Bill Cosby from prison ordered by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
Sexual violence should not be tolerated in our communities and perpetrators must be held accountable for this crime. According to RAINN, two out of three sexual assaults go unreported. Even when the system works correctly, only 25 perpetrators will be incarcerated for every 1000 sexual assaults that are committed. This is unacceptable. We must do everything in our power to make it easier for victims to seek the justice they deserve in our community and across the country.
If you or a loved one has experienced sexual violence recently, or in the past, YWCA OKC can help. Please call the Sexual Assault Hotline at 405-943-7273.
